Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 12, 2008 7:27 pm Hi All,
I am building in SA. I have upgraded to R2 to external walls on my contract. Just reading the specs for the area I am building in which states I would need R2 to the walls to meet the 5 star standard. Can the builders still charge me for this or should I remove it and them have to install it for free anyway. Their standard is R1.5. Seems pointless to remove it if they just add it back and still charge me the extra. The builders are fairmont Homes. Cheers for any advice Re: Insulation and 5 star rating 2Dec 12, 2008 7:47 pm There's very little difference between R1.5 and R2. Who would notice?
I would just leave it as R1.5 and if the builder has to upgrade it to R2.0 to meet the specification then it should be at the builder's cost. There is a much bigger difference between R1.5 to R 2 (33%) than R3.5 to R 4(14%) Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the R value stipulation code describing the whole wall assembly and not just the installed insulation. The cladding materials and vapour barrier may give an extra 0.5. Re: Insulation and 5 star rating 5Dec 12, 2008 10:09 pm Is there much difference between R1.5 and R1.7 wall batts. Our contract energy rated showed that they were using 1.7 (with R1.3 sisalation paper), but discovered that 1.5 had been delivered.
They are using R3.0 in the ceiling beneath a colorbond roof and sarking. FD2 www.thebedbug.com.au Children's Licenced and Treehouse Manchester for all of those new rooms! Now we're talking about the difference between R1.95 and R2.2 (13%). But FWIW, we put R2.0 batts in our contract. When the 5 star rating was done, they had to have 2.0 batts to get the 5 start rating so we got a credit for the amount we paid at contract for them.
The base price includes 5 star rating, so they paid for it. Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11255 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6174 |
