Has anyone had the problem when a ducted heating starts up it blows cold air first 20-30 seconds and then warm air comes? I spoke to the heating company and they explained to me that this happens because cool air in the ducts comes out first. Can this be fixed? Thanks, Anton Re: Ducted heating blows cold air first 20-30 seconds. 2Dec 09, 2008 9:38 am I don't think that could be fixed. I'd expect it to blow out cold air for the first 20-30 seconds. It's the same with airconditioning, why would it be different for heating? It's not like the ducts are heated. Unless they invent a device like they do for hot water where you use another pipe run to recirculate cold air back to the unit until a thermostat triggers a damper to route it out the vents. I would put up with the cold air. If you don't like a short sharp burst, put it on a low fan setting until it gets cranking. As soon as the heater gets the signal to turn on the fan starts and the burners fire up. However it takes about 30sec to 1min for the heater to warm up thus delivering warm air not cold air.
New units like the brivis ME and HE series actually start the burners first, wait until the temperature of the air gets to 50celcius and THEN start the fan, meaning no cold air blowing into the home - only warm air. Ours is a brivis unit and we are in a townhouse that is only about 4 years old.
