Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 27, 2008 9:02 am Hey, first post on the forum
Me and my fiance just recently moved into an old terrace house. Safe to say, its very cold (we're in the UK by the way). At the moment, we have an immersion heater for the hot water (not a problem) and a gas fire in the front room, but thats it as far as heating goes. We have some small electric heaters, but they are not really ideal for everyday use as they make the air go very dry, are not very efficient and are not suitable for some rooms. Any ideas what we can do? ideally i would like to be able to heat either certain rooms or the whole house, and central heating is abit expensive. As we both work long hours, we are mostly only in the house briefly in the morning and from approx 7pm onwards in the evening. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Kyle Read this on heaters: http://www.sustainability.vic.gov.au/ww ... sheets.asp Don't forget to look for reasons why you are losing heat. Old houses can leak significant heat from poorly sealed windows/doors, vents and penetrations. See if you can upgrade your ceiling insulation. These two things can reduce your energy use by half. Add some heavier window coverings as well. Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 17412 Does anyone have a suggestion for a good hydronic in slab heating speacialist who may be able to help me with an existing system and wether or not it may need a seperator… 0 4882 Thank you so much for the effort.
