Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jan 15, 2007 10:52 am I am thinking of buying a spit system, however I would rather not get an electrical contractor to install it for me, as is is for a rental property far out of town and the cost of travailing alone would exceed the amount to install one in town.
Is it possible to install your self, and if so does it require much work? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Jamie. Re: Spit system. 2Jan 15, 2007 12:25 pm Hi Jamie,
You might want to check warranties etc regarding installation, but also if you need to install electrical wiring, you will need to be licenced. If something goes wrong and the house burns down, I would imagine both the house and contents insurance would be voided due to illegal connections / wiring. Just my 2 cents. You'll also need a refrigeration mechanic to run the copper pipes between the indoor and outdoor unit. You cannot run the copper yourself as even a minute piece of dust entering the copper pipes can shatter the indoor coil. Pay to get the work done properly with the necessary certificates, otherwise you'll regret it sooner or later. We're renting so we needed something without installation. Our 4.5KW unit was about $800 but shop around. It keeps our main bedroom cooler but is useless in the lounge/dining/kitchen area.
