Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Nov 04, 2008 2:42 pm Me, again, 18 months ago, we had MetriCON build our "dream" home...it was supposed to be a 5 star home with all the bells and whistles [ same spec as the display home..] unfortunatly we had to buy a portable heater for the bedroom , as the heating wasnt sufficient to heat the main bedroom. The heating technician told us , that the fan wasnt big enough to push the heat to the vents in the bedroom. Metricon gave us the story that, the designers of the house had done the maths and we were wrong { even though i put the heating on , and showed him that it just wasnt working properly.] So, what do we do now, ? is it just a case of "buyer beware"..or .."never again"...the Site supervisor wasnt really interested..[ now they had our money ]...i suppose, we could sell up ....well, as soon as they fix the other problem [ see "water leak'],.... "love where you live?' yeah right. any suggestions? Re: metricon house 2Nov 04, 2008 3:07 pm Push harder, speak to the top guy... or he won't know. Then VCAT... But talk first. The true energy efficient homes don't rate a one star because the ratings don't recognise much in the way of non mainstream build materials, techniques and methods. Fair call too. A straw bale home, rammed earth house, mud brick homes are not really what the star rating is about yet they have the best (according to enough people in the know into that stuff) energy efficiencies of all.
It was a good read and after reading it your post doesn't surprise me. It was a good read and after reading it your post doesn't surprise me. Probably just like carbon trading Lol. It wouldn't surprise me either. We were told we would have to downsize all the windows for the zone we live in and get "comfort glass". I wasn't too happy with that and wondered why we can't keep the same window sizes if we'd be paying $10k for comfort glass! But apparently it doesn't work that way and you can't just shove extra insulation into the walls either. Well go figure! In the end it worked out ok because the zone was chaned one down and we found windows we liked that were acceptable (lots of long skinny ones the size of an average door). Phil I hope they fix you up. Nothing worse than living in a home that you can't heat properly & relatively cheaply, especially if you've actually paid for it!
