Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 07, 2022 1:38 pm I bought a brick veneer house recently that I was told (by the owner's ex-husband who had no financial interest in the property - divorced 30 years ago) was built in the 90's, but by looking at aerial photos on QLD Globe I've now learned that it was built some time between 1974 and 1978. I was also told the house was built by AV Jennings, but I'll take that with a grain of salt now. In the roof I saw a construction I've never seen before and I think might be some outdated insulation method. Here's a diagram to show what I can see from above and below without cutting into it. All the light fixtures are surface mounted and all cabling runs through holes drilled in the hardwood, so there's nowhere to get a peek at the inside of the plasterboard "boxes". There's no wall or roof insulation to get hints from. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Anybody seen this before? Is that internal space filled with something? Asbestos wool maybe? I was planning to put in flush mounted downlights but I'm not sure if I should be cutting into the ceiling if it's 100mm thick and filled with a mystery material. Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11456 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6411 |
