however keep in mind that electric heating can be very expensive, particularly here in melbourne. A lesser known but very effective alternative is gas ducted heating with add-on air-conditioning. All the benefits environmentally and with running costs of running a gas ducted heater, with the ultimate in cooling - refrigerated. All built into one system. If you need a new heating and cooling system IMHO that is they way to go. All the electric a/c units will say they are 200% or 400% efficient - they are - but still not even close to gas when it comes to running costs when heating. This question probably gets asked every 2nd day, but we're about to get our air con/heating sorted. We're going with a ducted system, with 4 zones to do our cooling and heating. From the quotes we have got there are 3 different systems we could use, all single phase. 1) Mitsubishi Inverter 2) ActronAir digital scroll 3) Daikin inverter (FDYQ160K 15.5kW) I have no idea which are good and which are bad. All the brochures say they're all good. But does anyone have an opinion on which might be the better one of the 3? Thanks in advance for any information people might have. Another vote for Daikin... Re: Another which ducted air con to use thread 6Mar 17, 2009 10:45 am We ended up going with the Actron. Main reason we picked it was because it could be ramped down (is that the right term?) a lot more than the others. It was only hooked up yesterday so we haven't used it yet. and an EXCELLENT unit! Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! in reality surely they would all perform quite similarly you would think Blog - http://snakedr.blogspot.com/ Build Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=12084&p=307406#p307406 Status - PCI 15/10. Looking through all the brochures and talking to people its hard to see how they differ, apart from prices I guess. Bit of a lottery picking the right one. Hopefully we did ok. We have 3 phase connected Anyone with similar and whats your thought and what did you end up getting? Also some one told me its only about $1500 - $2000 to get gas heating hooked into it? Is that all??!!! If it's that much I might consider it for sure. Re: Another which ducted air con to use thread 14Apr 23, 2009 1:26 pm quote from whirlpool below "The TCO is cheaper to have a reverse-cycle than adding a gas heater extra. I got a quote to install a gas heating and it required extra a few grand to add. That's not correct. From the link below even the worst efficiency gas ducted systems out perform an average three star reverse cycle ducted system. ~$580 per year v's ~$760 Now most gas ducted systems are 4-5 star the gas cost can be reduced further to ~$440. Assuming you had a four star R/C ducted system you'd still have costs proportionally higher than gas." I know its only a reversing valve in the A/C being a tigh *** can i save money in not getting a reverse cycle A/C and just get the ducted gas heating installed? Here's a comparison for you. We are building 30 sqr home (living only) we are putting in an Actron Air ESP Plus unit, 24kwts and it comes with 8 zones 13 outlets and installed costing $17k (in a very rural area) This unit is refridgerated cooling and heating all in one!
