Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation Re: Zoned Ducted Reverse Cycle System 2Mar 22, 2022 10:38 am PISSEDOFF I am trying to get some more information about a Daikin Ducted Reverse Cycle system. What does everyone think of a Daikin, as I have heard they are one of the best brands. What's the difference between normal ducted and zoned ducted or split systems? ? I have the following rooms that I would like to have some heating and cooling: Kitchen /living /lounge (open plan) Bedroom 1 - master Bedroom 2 Bedroom 3 Front lounge Are there any restrictions to running certain zones at one time? Do I need to run a minimum of 3 zones, how does it work? Are there any impacts to running at a certain fan speed etc? How does everyone know what sort of combination of settings need to be OK? For example, it's bed time and I want to just cool or heat the bedrooms (3 zones) When the system is on, do I need to to keep doors open or closed to the rooms or doesn't it matter? How often do you have to clean the return air filter? I just live in the suburbs, not dirty or dusty area,so pretty standard. How do you work out what size unit I would need? Are they quiet or noisy systems? Could I put on external wall of a bedroom? What WiFi controllers does everyone use and do you like it? Hit me up with some info, thanks for your help 👍 Options are baiscally. Ducted Zoned Ducted Multi-Split Split System Ducted is what it sounds like, ducts but its all on or all off, pretty rare these days. Zoned Ducted is ducts but you can turn off individual zones, normally 2-4 zones for a normal sized house, but you can have as many as you want. Multi Splits are split system on the inside but a singe outdoor unit. Split systems have one indoor unit for each outdoor unit. Each option has pro's and con's. In zoned ducted you can have as many zones on as you want and normally a minimum of one zone, though depending on your setup it might be a minimum of 2, would depend on the unit size and the zone size. You need the doors open in a ducted system or to have vents in the walls to allow airflow to the return, if you don't it will try to suck air under the doors back to the return with a fair bit of force putting extra wear and tear on the fan and causing doors to slam if they're not quite fully shut. I wouldn't put the unit outside of a bedroom, next to the garage is best if possible. If you want to cool just the bedrooms you can, but you'll still be cooling other parts of the house as the air pulls back to the return. Size depends on the size of your house, size of windows, blinds and awnings, ceiling height etc, best to consult a professional. And you should probably clean the return fortnightly, but I doubt most people clean it more than once every few months. Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
