Absolutely: if you have floor to ceiling windows on a multi-story property, you will definitely want awnings or outriggers over the ground floor windows. Is this a custom build being designed by an architect or building designer? If so, their drafting software should be able to show you exactly how the sun will enter your property at any day and time during the year. This will give you a visual indication if the solar-passive aspects of your build are correct. I've been doing my own research using solar-path modelling. Removing that west-facing window has been quite helpful in getting the EER up (despite the increase in size of the house). It might be a bit darker in the mornings but the light is still light, so you should be getting it.
