Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 04, 2021 2:02 pm Hi, A few weeks ago I had R3 polyester underfloor insulation installed. I then had cause to climb under the house (checking pipes) and there was a lot more gaps in the insulation than I had expected, there were bits bundled up in ways that seemed weird to me, etc. Before jumping on the phone and potentially wrongfully accusing someone of doing a bad job, I wanted to check whether it was my expectations that were wrong rather than the actual installation. (I installed underfloor insulation previously in another house but used earthwool rather than polyester. It wasn't a fun job so I wanted to not do it myself this time, and I heard polyester was just as good and easier to install so went with that recommendation from the company who we got to do the insulation this time.) I've included quite a few photos here, but I want to point out that unless I've noted it, this is not just lots of photos of the same few things - and these photos are from less than 1/4 of the total installed area and I have certainly not included all the gaps in that quarter - though probably have included the biggest gaps. I've tried to get some photos that give a general overview as well as a specific focus on the things that seemed like "gaps that shouldn't be there" to give a sense of scale and the overall appearance of the installation. Happy to get back under there to take different/more photos if it would help. Really, I just want to make sure I'm not being unreasonable in my expectations of what a reasonable underfloor insulation job is like, so if it is actually a bad install job I can have call the installer and/or leave reviews so others don't also get a bad install job from the same group. Cheers! Then I got a labourer to help me on the last day to move the batts to the other side of the home. The problem I can see from the photos is that it should be stapled along the sided/joist area so that they fit snuggly. It seems like a poor job. I will show you photo of my work. I used The Arrow stapler with a Makita gun. I have been trying for months to get the installer to come and look at the workmanship I provided photos of in the initial post with no success. I certainly regret now not just doing the installation myself, as you did. Re: Underfloor insulation: is this a decent install job? 6May 18, 2022 9:19 pm It's physical work but it's not hard. *Staple Gun (I used an electric Makita one) *Knife to Cut *Correct Size Batt (There were R2.5 underfloor CSR Martini underfloor insulation polyester rolls - purchased from Ecomaster but you can get them from other suppliers in NSW) *Protective Overalls, mask, gloves and glass + headlight And probably someone else to help you once you read the far end as you don't want to be coming out to drag the polyster rolls out. The labour cost along would be like $2000 from what I heard. I did have to hire out a labourer on the last day. It took me about 4 days to finish including a labourer on the last day. FYI I am a carpenter apprentice but I do a lot of DIY on my home from youtube videos. It does make a HUGE difference in the house. The house no longer feels cold and when the heater is on, air does not leak below the floorboard. 1 10119 Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design. Also are you… 6 7026 Last year I had a gas leak at my house. 3 days later, I have about 1 sqm of my exposed aggregate paving broken up. I am not sure how to go about getting it repaired… 0 10403 |
