Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Sep 02, 2021 2:55 pm Hi All, We are currently in the tender process for a custom build and are trying to work through HVAC options for our custom 60sq double story home. We have the current options on the table: 1) Daikin Ducted - 2x 25kw with 12 zones 2) Daikin VRV 2x ODU with 12 zones 3 ) Airsmart https://airsmart.com/ I will be connecting the system to my home automation system (Control4). The HVAC consultant says the Daikin VRV and Airsmart will be similarly in price and highly recommends Airsmart. My issue is that I expect the Daikin VRV and Airsmart will come out at double the cost of the Daikin Ducted. Is the efficiency worth the cost? Keen on people's views and any comments based on experience in using VRV and the Airsmart systems. Re: Air Conditioning Options 2Sep 02, 2021 4:28 pm The question to be asked what is your expectation. If you are already investing into Control4 for a 60 sqm house (which is certainly not cheap), then spending extra $20k on a proper matching aircon system such as Airsmart should not be a serious issue. Just imagine your electrical bills when running 50kW aircon system. On the other side, with properly designed and insulated house and depending on your location, you might not require any HVAC at all. Re: Air Conditioning Options 3Sep 02, 2021 4:44 pm I'm getting a mitubishi unit similar to the Daikin VRV and it was almost the same price as ducted. Within 5%. I only have a single ODU with 5 indoor units, though I may add a sixth in the garage in the future depending on how I utilise the space. It's not just the efficiency though, it's the effectiveness of the zoning, by removing central returns you isolate each zone far better getting each room closer to the desired temp, ie less inconsistencies in temperature across the home.
