Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Jul 29, 2021 8:57 pm I'm building with Summit and am stuck at how much I should invest in insulating the house. I enquired about double glazing and my builder's estimate was $6000 to go with double glazing on the windows. Our single storey has a lot of windows and many of them extend all the way to the floor. $6000 is a lot less than some of the quotes I've seen other people on this forum received so am I right in thinking this would be a no brainer to go with or is it something that's not a big deal in the Perth climate? But the main thing I'm struggling with is the type of walls I want. As I understand it, RBV is great for the heatsink effect that having bricks on the inside wall would give but my builder reckons that since they're using the lighter weight bricks with the holes in them and not the denser bricks, the effect doesn't apply in this situation so I would have to go with the more expensive and denser bricks. I was also linked their building methods comparison and it lists double brick as less insulating than their steel framed brick veneer(doesn't mention RBV). Does this all sound about right? If I go with any option with brick on the inner side (DB or RBV), I'll be paying about $4000 more at the end of the day as a price comparison with BV which mainly is a result of the increased amount of work it is to do the inner walls if I understand it correctly. Help is appreciated! If I've said something wrong or stupid(which wouldn't surprise me), it might be because I've misunderstood something. It would be great to hear from people who have built RBV with Summit too. Thank you!! Re: RBV with Summit? Double Glazing? Thanks for this, heaps of good info for me in here. This has also shown me how much there still is that I don't understand haha Re: RBV with Summit? Double Glazing? There are heaps here. Just look for them.will help you level of insulation, glazing type and much more! This is one of the reasons I decided to go overseas for my double glazed windows.
