Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 May 24, 2021 3:48 pm Hi can anybody help me with which windows I need to glaze? Iv spent so much time going around in circles from my builder, supplier, window company and no one can help me. All they are saying we put the order through and glaze the selected windows. I need help with which windows to glaze. My house is facing West (not ideal) do I do all the ground and second floor west windows? Or just the second storey? East facing? My main concern is the summer heat in Perth. Thank you for any help or advice! Thanks Re: Comfortplus glazed glass. Which windows do I glaze? 2May 24, 2021 4:44 pm Hi Courtney Did the energy report that came with your CDC specify which windows need low E glass? It is sometimes a condition of the energy report that certain windows are glazed to meet the required standards. At a minimum you would do those so your build is compliant. Otherwise in Perth I'd be doing every west facing window and probably the east as well. We have large west facing windows (also in Perth and also only available design option) and they are all comfort plus glass. We have still planted deciduous trees in front of both window to provide the required shade in summer. Which windows do I glaze? 3May 24, 2021 6:08 pm Thank you so much for the reply. I haven’t seen or been given an energy report? At what stage do you normally receive one? Would you do all west and East on the ground and second storey? Do you like the comfortplus? Any issues? I have read a few bad reviews about streaking ect Thank you. Re: Comfortplus glazed glass. Which windows do I glaze? 4May 24, 2021 7:31 pm You have to have an energy report in order to get your building licence. Your builder will definitely have one and it should be part of all your plans and paperwork. It may specify the type of glazing you require. Ideally you wouldn't have windows or at least minimal windows facing west, and east while not as severe is still not great. I would definitely glaze every window upstairs and downstairs that faces west with comfort plus. Realistically you will still want to look at other shading options because that western sun is hot. We had to have large windows facing west to achieve the layout we wanted. We bought mature deciduous trees to shade the two windows. The first year they weren't big enough to provide full shade and it was a bit hot at times. This year they were much better and next year they will give us exactly what we need and had planned for with regards shade and ascetics. Without them, even with the comfort plus glass it would be very uncomfortable and you'd end up with closed blinds all the time which defeats the purpose of large picture windows. The comfort plus glass definitely blunts or takes the edge of the sun but I don't believe it's enough on its own. Try to consider some form of shading on the largest of the windows. Thank you for the advice and help. Iv asked to add on the other two windows facing west. I’m also looking into which trees we can plant along that side of the house. Thanks! I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known. Rylock is a good company, Stegbar is for sale. 4 12825 What do you need them to withstand?
