Which windows do I glaze? 5May 28, 2021 4:19 pm chippy You have to have an energy report in order to get your building licence. Your builder will definitely have one and it should be part of all your plans and paperwork. It may specify the type of glazing you require. Ideally you wouldn't have windows or at least minimal windows facing west, and east while not as severe is still not great. I would definitely glaze every window upstairs and downstairs that faces west with comfort plus. Realistically you will still want to look at other shading options because that western sun is hot. We had to have large windows facing west to achieve the layout we wanted. We bought mature deciduous trees to shade the two windows. The first year they weren't big enough to provide full shade and it was a bit hot at times. This year they were much better and next year they will give us exactly what we need and had planned for with regards shade and ascetics. Without them, even with the comfort plus glass it would be very uncomfortable and you'd end up with closed blinds all the time which defeats the purpose of large picture windows. The comfort plus glass definitely blunts or takes the edge of the sun but I don't believe it's enough on its own. Try to consider some form of shading on the largest of the windows. Thank you for the advice and help. Iv asked to add on the other two windows facing west. I’m also looking into which trees we can plant along that side of the house. Thanks! I don't know them all, the first 2 top of your list are best known. Rylock is a good company, Stegbar is for sale. 4 16236 What do you need them to withstand?
