Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 03, 2021 10:47 am Looking for some info please. I've tried searching the forum to no avail. 1. Does a higher anticon rating mean more noise reduction? 2. I'm building in Brisbane, not above 300 sea level. Is an anticon 60 blanket (R1.3) and R4 insulation in the ceiling adequate for substantial noise reduction as well as thermal insulation? Currently looking at polyester batts but need to find out if the roof cavity is big enough for these. I read something about having too much insulation making the house too warm? I despise heat and would much prefer a cooler home. Any info would be great! Thanks Re: Anticon/insulation, please help! 2Mar 03, 2021 2:33 pm I can't comment on the R value specifics but what I can say that in our new build in Perth that installing anticon and 6mm glass required due to BAL19 is one of the best things about our home. Over this summer the aircon has only been needed in late afternoon on a 35 deg day. As a sparky I have spent a lot of time in the roof this summer and couldn't work there without the anticon installed under the tin roof. We have just had a heap of rain here in Perth and the noise level is really good. To be truthful all you hear is the rain in the downpipe not the roof. Also as far as noise goes I can't believe how thicker glass actually blocks any noise. I don't require this as thankfully not in a bushfire prone area but will discuss further with my builder as I am by no means anywhere near an expert about any of this! Do you have any other insulation in your ceiling apart from the glass and anticon? Re: Anticon/insulation, please help! 5Mar 03, 2021 3:43 pm Brett0004 We have ceiling batts as well R4 as required by the standards. I also have cavity barrier insulation on west facing walls. Thanks so much! I am saying that double brick has similar thermal performance due to thermal mass effect. It will be still very interesting to see the state of your framing after 10-15… 10 29633 Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11230 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6146 |
