Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Dec 07, 2020 7:53 am I have had two installers out to quote on my plan for ducted evaporative. Both installers have said it's not really feasible. One said we would need two evap units. The other said they could only cool the bedroom downstairs. I'm not one to normally question professional opinions, in this case though I know that they're super busy this time of year and likely don't want complex a jobs as it reduces margins. We are looking at the Breezair Supercool EXS220 – 15kW – Airflow 2540 Has anyone installed a similar solution to my plan or see an issue with it? Re: Ducted evaporative advice (VIC) 2Dec 07, 2020 9:49 am Here in WA where evap cooling is very common I have seen a lot of 2 story houses with 2 units. Not sure why you cannot get by with just one. Did they explain why? If they aren't willing to explain then maybe they don't really know? Re: Ducted evaporative advice (VIC) 3Dec 07, 2020 10:04 am Thanks for your reply Althom. Yeah I have looked around our neighborhood and can see plenty of two stories with just one unit. One said the ducting would be too long and therefor not cool the house. The other just kept it wouldn't work and going to other options. Re: Ducted evaporative advice (VIC) 4Dec 22, 2020 8:53 am With two story homes the issue alot of the time is getting the ductwork from the top roof space through voids to the ground floor. Because it is evaporative cooling it is based off high air changes meaning the ductwork has to be oversized to accomodate the high amount of airflow. In a lot of cases getting oversized voids for evap ductwork can be problematic due to floor joists, beams etc etc. Re: Ducted evaporative advice (VIC) 5Dec 22, 2020 10:12 am Carmen With two story homes the issue alot of the time is getting the ductwork from the top roof space through voids to the ground floor. We ended up getting another quote and the installer really took the time to review our plan, investigate the whole house (including in roof and voids) and explain the pros and cons. The size of the duct that would feed the bedrooms would have to be slightly too big to for the proposed void, not by much though, so we're still considering it. But thanks for the reply, you really hit the nail on the head, I posted this question on many forums and Reddit and didn't much response.
