Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 06, 2008 5:59 pm I know M have a 3 star as standard (with 8 ducts I think)
We would like a 5 star and were thinking of zoneing but I gather from Joles post there is no point (we might add a couple of ducts maybe so totalling 10-12 but thats it) So does anyone have a rough idea of cost? Oh and I will attach my plan perhaps someone can tell me where they would put ducts Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Anyone know cost of upgrading from 3 star to 5 star heater 2Oct 06, 2008 7:23 pm Penny, have they given you the electrical plan? That will have the ducts on it. I'd add one to the bathroom and one to the ensuite.
Most of the time they say to upgrade to four star. The savings from four to five stars are minimal apparently. Not sure on this, one of the gurus on here will know heaps more than me. From memory, upgrade to 4 star was approx $350 and extra ducts about $200. Not sure though. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Anyone know cost of upgrading from 3 star to 5 star heater 3Oct 06, 2008 7:33 pm Penny, I am not going with M but I think it IS worth having at least 2 zones - we are having this (1 zone for living and one for bedrooms - 30 square home).
The cost of upgrading to 5* and adding one zone was $1500 for us, just to give you a ballpark figure. Re: Anyone know cost of upgrading from 3 star to 5 star heater 4Oct 06, 2008 7:49 pm Donuts - How many ducts do you have? We get 8 as standard and looking at the plan I dont think we would need any more than that. I wont be adding them in the bathrooms or hallways so then I couldnt zone it could I ? I wouldnt have enough ducts.
Is it worth trying to force another 3 ducts in somewhere just so I can zone off the kids bedrooms so they dont overheat when we are up at night?? Re: Anyone know cost of upgrading from 3 star to 5 star heater 5Oct 06, 2008 7:58 pm I can't remember how many ducts, but just counting through our rooms I think we would have at least 9, 11 if they are going in the bathrooms (how embarrassing I don't even know ).
So can you not zone if you have less than 8? Why not? Sorry should probably go check that other thread ...
