Seen it in operation and gee it's a great idea and should save you over 30% in energy costs.. http://www.cleansystemenergy.com/index. ... ning.html# Re: Things to know BEFORE getting a quote for AC? 22Apr 01, 2010 8:18 pm The website didn't have a lot of detail. It sounds like a solar driven absorption cycle AC. There are commercial examples but usually difficult to scale it for residential purposes. I would be interested to know how big the solar collector needs to be, how large is the unit and, whether it needs a cooling tower and how much it would cost. Page_1.jpg Re: Things to know BEFORE getting a quote for AC? 24Apr 02, 2010 10:04 am I have one question that is still puzzling me. The cost of installing a 5KW grid connected solar power system will cost well above $25000. if i install 3 separate 2kw systems, which will give a total of 6KW, will definitely be under $15000. What is the difference in these two systems, and why is my second silly but cheap option never talked about. Roll over your carpets in uncontrollable laughter, then please shed some light in one confused guy!!! The current scheme allows you to multiply the RECs (renewable energy certificates) by 5 for systems under 1.5KW, i.e. it's targeting the average residential ones. That multiplier will be reduced over a few years, and anything above 1.5KW has multipier = 1. And the Govt recently ensures that residential RECs are bought at $40 each too, I remember. The problem is that only 1 system per address is eligible for that multiplication, which means that the later two of your three 2KW systems would cost a lot more because they don't generate as many RECs. That's how I understand it - hopefully the correct way You can google RECs on govt web sites for more details. Re: Things to know BEFORE getting a quote for AC? 27Apr 07, 2010 9:21 am i get it now, I had assumed that the rebates will be available every time you install. thanks. i think i now have to save for the 5KW system. does anyone have info on the viability of solar systems in the melbourne west. anyone with a system there and has figures on kw generation per day, savings, projected period for a system to repay itself etc... Our own quote also mentions "boxing in of ducts". What does it actually mean? Now that it's been done, I don't see any "boxing in" of anything !!! And BTW, what's a dropper? A dropper is a length of duct that runs between the roof space and the ground floor thus enabling you to get air to the ground floor in a 2 storey house where the fancoil goes in the roof space. Typically run through bedroom wardrobes, linen cupboards, etc... Boxing in refers to covering them with gyprock or similar so you won't see the actual duct when you open the wardrobe... Many AC companies exclude this from their quotes... Re: Things to know BEFORE getting a quote for AC? 30Apr 19, 2010 8:40 am Thanks, IceMan!! Wow, had no idea that 'boxing in' can be a big deal! I just thought it comes with house design - and our standard house design has been like that from day 1 - eerrrrr, hang on ... have they double charged us for that .
