Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Aug 02, 2012 6:30 pm Hi All, Long time reader, first time poster! But Ill soon be building a new home so I’m sure there will be many more questions to come! I’m currently considering air-conditioning, and for one area (living/meals/kitchen) I was considering using a cassette air conditioner instead of a normal high-wall split system. The area is quite large (approx 85m2) and the windows face north and west so it is going to have a fair heat load. Has anyone else installed one in their home? I know they are suited more for commercial situations than residential, but I still like the idea Any thoughts? good and bad? My main question is around the cost for the installation. I know they are more than a standard split, but how much more? What makes up this cost - is it the work involved in mounting the unit? If I was to physically mount the unit, and then had someone come in to wire & gas it up, would that make much of a difference? I had a look in the forums, but couldn’t really find the answers I was after, so apologies if someone has asked before Thanks in advance Re: Cassette Air Conditioner 2Aug 02, 2012 8:40 pm IMO cassettes are great and they can really crank. There's a bit more to installation than with HWS systems so your labour will be more. Also the systems themselves cost more. For instance a 7.1kW Daikin HWS is just over half the price of a 7.1kW cassette, dealer prices, so fairly easy to see where the extra costs go. Just be careful to allow enough room in the ceiling... Re: Cassette Air Conditioner 3Aug 09, 2012 6:30 pm Thanks IceMan, Think ill continue down that path. Now i just have to work out where to put it between everything else that is in that ceiling and how big the unit will be. Planing on pre-wiring for it, to put it in at a later stage. Re: Cassette Air Conditioner 4Aug 15, 2012 5:30 pm Make sure the roof trusses are sufficiently spaced apart to fit the Indoor unit. Trusses are usually working on 600mm centres (that's around 560mm between trusses). 85 sq mtrs will need up to 11.9kW. Most units this capacity will need an area of 850 to 900mm square. Something to think about. How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 6546 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
