Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Mar 24, 2011 9:45 pm Hi, I am new to this forum. My house, a 20 year old, in the west of Melbourne, has four bedrooms, two living areas. It had a Stadt ducted heating plus add on cooling. The cooling is nearly not working, although extremely loud(the fan of the outdoor unit). Heating is ok, but fan is loud, airflow is not enough. I am looking at replace it with Braemar ducted heating and any brand of evap cooling. Now just discuss the heating. I add up each room and areas plus hallway. It is about 160m2(17sq). I didn't add laundry and bathrooms. Originally, there are 9 outlets, three in the big living and two in small living, and one in each bedroom. I thought a 18kw unit would suit this house. But two dealers wish me to install 23kw (TH425), one said the airflow of TH425 will meet requirement of 9 outlets. What I considered more is the gas usage. Any suggestion for me? Many thanks. Re: Is Braemar TH425 oversized for 17-18 sq house? 2Mar 25, 2011 9:07 pm I would play it safe with the 25. If you installed the 18 it would run a little harder and probably cost you more in gas usage in the end. A bit like an inverter air conditioner - go a 'little' bigger but never smaller than you require. You get what you pay for! Re: Is Braemar TH425 oversized for 17-18 sq house? 3Mar 26, 2011 9:29 pm Thanks! MagicMuppetMan. I found the old Stadt booklet, it was 19kw unit. although the airflow is labeled 580-635l/s@75pa, because of the poorly designed zoning and add on cooling. I never feel the airflow is strong enough. Braemar 425 is 755l/s @100pa. IF I do go ahead with this unit, I might add one more outlet in each bathroom. Regarding to the zoning, the Braemar booklet clearly has a line " typically, a minimum of three outlets per zone is required". But why three dealers all tell me it is not necessarily to have three outlets/zone, you can have ie. one bedroom per zone. Are they just trying to sell more zone damper?
