Browse Forums Heating, Cooling & Insulation 1 Oct 29, 2018 4:06 pm My roof tiles on my new house were installed yesterday and I was surprised to see there was no sarking installed. I had just assumed it would be sarked, but the builder told me that it was not standard for them and I would have had to specify it earlier as an extra. My bad, although it would have been been nice to have known that earlier........ Anyway, it it too late now without taking all the tiles off. I have specified R6 batts in the ceiling. Should I be looking for some other sort of insulation on the roof frame, that can be installed from inside under the tiles, eg foil??? Thanks Re: No sarking...should I do something else?? 2Oct 29, 2018 5:17 pm It makes you want to tear your hair out, seeing Australian builders skimping a few miserable dollars on the tender by neglecting efficiency essentials such as sarking and house wrap from their work. With a tiled roof, brokenstick, you'll likely be OK and you choice of R6 batts puts you way up the efficiency totem-pole. A bit of sarking would have made it even better and reduced drafting in the roof and possible post-broken tile damage one-day. Again, great rating choice on the insulation. PS A general overall tip, never install a metal roof without an anti-con blanket no matter what the bloody builder says!
