I have had a look at your website, the results look great. I am in a fairly new house and have been thinking about getting the grout sealed. Is this available in Melbourne & what are the costs? Thanks, Pip Re: Tile and Grout Restoration 3Jun 03, 2008 11:09 am Hi Pip
Grout Sealing comes in two forms either by colour sealing or clear sealing, colour sealing will last 3 times longer than any clear sealer as colour sealing is a topical coat and clear seal sits just below the surface giving you a few minutes to remove the stain where as colour sealing it does not matter how long the stain is there for it will water proof and resist stains for years. I have two applicators that are in training at the moment in Melbourne once they are up and running I will let you know asap. The cost includes preparation of the grout as it needs to be free of any contaminants it can cost between $20-$25 per sq metre which includes tile and grout cleaning aswell. Craig Re: Tile and Grout Restoration 5Jun 03, 2008 1:19 pm If you get this done, going forward, is it simply a matter of mopping and the tiles and the grout are clean?
At the moment I mop and the grout still lots yuck. The house is only 8 months old but parts look horrible. Every now and then I get down with the bleach/or grout cleaner and scrub the grout but it still comes back. I want something that all I have to do is vac and then mop. Is there such a thing? Hi Mudtrilogy Yes all you need to do is use a neutral cleaner and mop with coloured sealed grout, once that is done take a dry towel and dry the surface you just cleaned concentrating on drying the grout lines as dirty water will just sit there and dry out creating that dirty look and using neutral cleaner there is no need to rinse the floor after. Please try not to use bleach as this will certainly discolour your grout, the other cause for dirty grout build up is not rinsing out the products you use to clean with this will change the PH balance off your floor therfore attraction dirt as it is walked in or been spread around using a mop try and always dry the floor and grout after cleaning even if it is not colour sealed. You can also use neutral cleaners to clean all most any hard surface my favourite is SupaStar from Reserch Products the best cleaner I have found for tiles and grout. Please note neutral cleaner will not restore stained tiles or grout it will need to be restored by a proffessional tile cleaner first or unless it is a new install than all you need to use is a neutral cleaner from there on. The only way to clean dirty grout is have a professional do it for you as we carry over $60,000 worth of equipment we use high PH chemicals and low PH chemicals also high self contained pressure cleaners for rinsing and a whole lot more, it takes a lot of training and knowledge to get the results but sometimes stains will not remove thats why colour sealing is our new best friend specially for brand new installs. Hope this helps Craig Re: Tile and Grout Restoration 7Jun 03, 2008 4:45 pm What ! Dry the floor after mopping esp grout lines... I have over 75sq of tiles. Fat chance on that one Ah yes very true but you can wrap a towel around your mop or something similar if it makes it easier for you, I mainly concerntrate on the grout lines only and it does not take that long, you just did all that hard work cleaning for nothing as you still have dirt sitting in the grout. I understand what you are saying but thats why tiles and grout stay dirty and get worse. Craig Re: Tile and Grout Restoration 10Jun 03, 2008 5:02 pm mudtrilogy What ! Dry the floor after mopping esp grout lines... I have over 75sq of tiles. Vac and Mop takes ages now I have to dry as well. Fat chance on that one It's called maintenance cleaning! You can choose not to, and then pay a professional to come and clean the muck out of the grout joints every year or two.... up to you. To add to Craig's info, regular mopping using too much liquid often is a cause of grout soiling. If a big wet mop is used with copious amounts of water, (& chemicals) it leaves the liquid collected in the grout joints. The edge of the tiles literally squeegy the solution from the mop into the gully to dry. So obviously, the residue will collect there. I recommend using microfibre mopping systems and minimal volume of liquid. Using a small amount of hot water/neutral cleaner mix, wet the microfibre, and mop the floor. Then rinse it with fresh water, and wring out most moisture and mop again. This way, it cleans well, and minimal water volume is left to pool in the grout joints. Towel drying is a great idea, but the above method will minimise the need. Ash. Re: Tile and Grout Restoration 11Jun 03, 2008 5:49 pm Ok that I can do
Do you recommend ENJO or Saebco etc Re: Tile and Grout Restoration 12Jun 03, 2008 6:33 pm I agree with Ash microfibre will work, less water is the go. Hmm I will have to change my maintenance link on the website now thanks Ash great tip.
