Browse Forums What's New 1 Sep 26, 2006 5:30 pm Any fans of minimalistic design here? I love some stuff (not the very very minimal), like some European kitchens, Poliform furniture, white and grey, etc. Boring I know, and no-one I know shares my taste. If anyone has any ideas, recommendations, etc., anything welcome. Thanks. Re: (Nearly) minimalism 2Sep 26, 2006 6:25 pm Not really sure where your going with this, minimalist is a sparse look in design, very little furniture. It doesn’t mean the type of furniture, just not much of it and no clutter.
You sound like you are into more of a Retro look? That’s neat, and who cares if no one else shares you opinion, just means no one will copy you. I love it when people do their own thing it means they are individuals, good for you. Do what you wont to do, just remember don’t do a lot of it. Not much to clean? Sounds good to me! Not the no-furniture look but rather very strict-looking, no-detail type of look, not a lot of colour... that sort of thing. I hope I can pull it off, have been thinking about new kitchen and bathrooms for a long time, I know exactly what I DON'T like but eh well, I'll keep on looking until it's time to make a decision... A lot of things from Space Furniture would do it if only they were giving it away for free... Re: (Nearly) minimalism 4Sep 28, 2006 4:00 pm I deal with space, they have great furniture.
I think the look you are going for is the “Clean Lines” look. Which is the type of furniture “Space” sells, long squared off edgers, hardly any round corners, slink. Have fun! But i've been looking through magazines lately namely vogue, and some of designs are very good but too much white. Almost looks like a hospital, very sanitary. Re: (Nearly) minimalism 6Oct 15, 2006 9:55 am Yep that’s where is has gone, but if you use good sense in decoration and bold feature walls this clinical look can be very dramatic. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: (Nearly) minimalism 7Oct 15, 2006 2:18 pm Clinical look, that's me! I will not be softening the look with colourful cushions etc. (as suggested by lots of people), just blond timber floors instead of going for polished concrete which is what I really wanted to do! Just white walls. Haven't decided about furniture colour though, only choices I can see are black, white or grey.
Have got a couple of pieces of beautiful Danish furniture by BoConcept (TV trolley and stereo/book cupboard) in beech that we bought six years ago but I don't think they'll suit the floor... Although I have to say we might be going for a dark red sofa!! So there's a bit of colour! Re: (Nearly) minimalism 8Oct 15, 2006 2:26 pm Sounds nice mek….go for it. Re: (Nearly) minimalism 10Oct 15, 2006 2:40 pm Just remember to keep it simple, the look you are going for is a modern one, although still very stylish.
I think you will be fine. The dominance in your home will be your furniture, so good thing you are buying the really nice quality gear, as this will be your decoration. Anything else can come later as you get the feel for your home. Which is important. But in my experience most people have way too much junk to ever get a minimalist look.
Just see how display homes are kitted out - you'll often not even see a TV unless there's a dedicated theatre room. Likewise when people are selling they often ned to move about 80% of their junk out so that the rooms can 'breathe' a little. So minimalist to me means more of a lifestyle choice than simply a decorating style. Re: (Nearly) minimalism 12Aug 10, 2007 1:05 am After we finish building our house i think we are going to have the minimalist look in our house maybe not by choice, big house no furniture anywhere barely paint on the walls. Minimalist all the way, who needs to sit down, way over rated Re: (Nearly) minimalism 13Aug 10, 2007 4:08 am I'm DEFINITELY in the wrong place in this thread!
I'm drawn by visually and texturally rich, exotic decor, fancy detail and feminine curves. But I agree with Mish. You have your own tastes, and that's great! So go for it, and enjoy! Cheers! Ash. Re: (Nearly) minimalism 14Jan 25, 2009 1:11 am I'm uber busy (but not too busy to join this forum) so I am so much into minimalism, aside from calming look of so much space, there's not so much to clean. hehe Re: (Nearly) minimalism 15Feb 20, 2009 2:53 pm Some interesting minimalist designs for houses here -

Re: (Nearly) minimalism 17Mar 16, 2009 6:42 pm croudace Hi we have just done a minimalist house with relativly inexpensive finishes - ie white laminate benchtops and melamine cupboard doors - see attached. Looks fantastic!! WOW. I'm a big fan of the minimalist look. Custom build! Re: (Nearly) minimalism 19Mar 16, 2009 8:28 pm What colour are your walls croudace?
I would love to learn more about decorating in minimalist style. I'm keen to decorate my house using the same principles, have gone with all white to create a blank canvas. See how it goes in the next few weeks. Custom build! |
