Yesterday we checked out a few new display homes, mainly for inspiration on decorating ideas - we intend painting a couple of feature walls and wanted to see what is currently in vogue. It quickly became apparent that we had forgotten the golden rule for display homes which is earthy neutral colours ,consequently most feature walls were a shade of brown whether it be paint or textured surfaces and therefore we couldn't find an example of what we were looking for.
One of the homes we visited had a very interesting feature. Instead of the old-fashioned step-down living room (so 1980's ) it had a step-up timber floored family room adjacent to the kitchen. What do you think?
The other feature we noticed in some of the houses we saw (not this one) was NO CORNICES! I don't actually mind this idea; it makes the rooms look bigger and creates a bold look but the cynic in me suggests that the main reason for cornice-free houses is to save on costs to the builder, just like the disappearance of eaves.
