http://www.homeideas.com.au (it's in Sydney) Has anyone visited this place? - devank Re: Home Ideas 2Sep 04, 2007 7:11 pm I've visited the Sydney Home Ideas Centre and it's a good place to look at a variety of fittings and finishes for your house. I plan to spend a day (or two) there when it comes time to pick things. It has a lot on display, but there still areas that are empty, so I hope it gets even better.
They also have a great bookshop there for all things related to building. They also hold monthly talks. I've been to the last two and will attend the next one on Thursday 20th September. Good for you for wanting to get as much knowledge as you can while building, it really helps! This type of Centre is great; there should be more of them. I have given serious thought to doing something on a smaller scale myself in my town. I love my weekends and free time so I have decided against it….should have done it a few years back, and I don’t think this small town was ready for it back then!!! Wow is me! People……Get out there and soak up as much info as you can before the selection deadline of your home. That’s where fatal mistakes can happen. You all need to be prepared, know all there is to know. Then you can progress confidently through your build project. I have been to the one in Adelaide; it has some good products on display but there is noone at the stalls to help with questions. in adelaide we have to tick a box to say we want a brochure and then collect a stack of brochures at the front counter. then you basically have to remember what you liked about each product and make enquiries directly from the brochure. it is a great idea and has great potential but i think it is yet to reach it's full potential in Adelaide. cheers Helen Re: Home Ideas 7Sep 05, 2007 12:55 am I think you will find that home ideas is totally funded by the display companies/vendors paying to have some floor space inside the centres.
So having staff on hand to man it as well as their normal showroom - is too costly. Personally - I found the one in SA a good way to review lots of ideas - then I went and saw their real showrooms to see what they had on hand. Like a trade show - home show etc - see a snippet in one spot - then pick out what you like. I drive past the SA centre twice every day and did so for months before I stopped there - so I think their marketing is a bit average. Great idea once you go in. Just needs some razzing up and commitment by the advertisers who are paying to be there. Steve Re: Home Ideas 8Sep 05, 2007 11:47 pm I have been to the display in brisbane. I think it is far from impressive. Out dated displays, half removed displays really needs some work done. Just not very good overall. Interested if others have visited the brisbane site what they thought. Re: Home Ideas 9Sep 06, 2007 12:03 am When we first started our business we took a stand in Melbourne ($2600 for 3m wide x 2m deep stand)
It was an interesting experience and it gained us a few customers and a bucketload of exposure. The last few however have been dissapointing and we would not bother to setup "shop" again... It is too expensive and a little over rated IMO. I have been to the one in Brissy and we thought the same. Looked unorganised and bare! No one to give you any info. Re: Home Ideas 11Oct 10, 2008 7:04 am I went to the Sydney one about 5 months ago (when we were looking to renovate) and I wasn't that impressed. I thought too it would have been handy to have someone there to ask questions of. I know you get brochures at the end but... I prefer being able to speak to someone face to face. I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters.
