Utterly literal description indeed. Thanks chippy. These were laid 10 years ago and I will try, possibly in vain, find replacements. They need to come up. I was even hoping, as some have come loose already, to pry them off the mortar they are sitting on. I wonder how many would break. They are 40mm thick and seem very robust. Well I managed to lift one out and saw it was set on sand and now presume only the ones on the edges are set in a little concrete to stop them moving. The ones on the landing are set in mortar. The one I took was resting on its edge. After accidentally bumping that paver it toppled over and the edge landed on recess and chipped off. Perhaps they are reenforced further in! Anyhow, shall glue it back together and lay back in place.
