Years ago I did manage to get a plant online from a nursery in Queensland, but my poor plant died in the Canberra winter. I didn't give it enough protection from the cold. I am again trying to track down nurseries that sell it, but it's not proving successful. I saw specimens growing in private gardens in Brisbane, so they must get them from somewhere! The thing is, it's no longer popular but I can't understand that; it's a stunning plant and grows easily in warm climates, and its dried leaves are so beautifully spicy fragrant. This plant has a very important in my mum's culture (PNG). If you find it available, please let me know. May be Brisbane/Queenland will be a better chance. Sure will let you know if any good news. Cheers/Roger Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 5Aug 30, 2020 3:22 pm Hi Tomas, Still no progress. Stuck overseas due to the pandemic. I understand Aussie custom, from their website, allows cut foliages (max 6 pieces) for personal use. They will inspect to make sure they are safe. I can found Ming Aralia in nurseries in Hong Kong. May be when the pandemic is not that bad, I can bring a few cut branches when returning to Sydney and mail a couple to you. Do you know how to grow it from cut branches? In the meantime, I saw in facebook a guy in Canberra is also searching for Ming Aralia. https://www.facebook.com/tomas.dietz/posts/10157830519927830 May be you can contact him to see any luck. Good luck/Roger Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 6Aug 30, 2020 5:53 pm Hi Roger, that Canberra person is me! 😊 It would be great if you could bring back some fresh cuttings. Just make sure they are at least finger thickness with several nodes, so probably about 20cm long. Remove leaves as they will only stress the cutting. Some Facebook contacts responded with cuttings so I’m hoping to strike some but they were very small, so I’m not too confident they will strike. If they do I will certainly share them with you. I managed to receive two varieties. Anyway bring what you can to increase our chances of success!! Take care and stay safe. Good luck /Roger Hi Roger, I hope all is well with you. Are you back in Sydney? Just letting you know I received a cutting of Ming Aralia a couple of months ago. It sprouted roots successfully and is now in a pot. I’m keeping it warm and hoping it will survive the Canberra winter. If it survives and grows well I can take a cutting for you. Here’s a photo of my precious baby. In our Motu language it’s called ‘vamovamo’. I am back to Sydney. No luck with bring cuttings from overseas. Australian custom doesn’t like the idea much ☹ Instead, I got a small pot local in Sydney and it is adapting quite well. Only it appears a bit different. Do you think it is the same species? If you like, I can split and send you a small pot. I am sure it will survive the winter with your great care. 22 deg indoor is not that bad. Sydney indoor can be down to 15 deg and mine is doing good 😊. It will be great if you are so kind to share a cutting when it is available. We live 2 hours north of Sydney, but it still would have to be indoors over winter I guess. Could you point me in some direction? Or could I purchase a cutting of yours if big enough to take cuttings? Cheers Michal Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 13Jan 05, 2024 6:19 pm Tito Hi Michal, I have a tiny cutting in Canberra that’s struggling, but as soon as it’s big enough to survive a cutting I can send you one. Tomás That would be awesome. Let me know when it's ready. I am happy to pay or send you a plant or two in return. 0407 942 114 Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 14Jan 05, 2024 10:05 pm Hi Tomas and Michal, I do have a small seedling that can share. It has been growing for half a year and with roots well developed. Only I am not sure if it is Parsley Aralia (Polyscias Fruticosa Elegans - ref https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/poly ... a-elegans/) or Ming Aralia (ref https://plants.ces.ncsu.edu/plants/polyscias-fruticosa/ ). Can you tell the difference? I think your specimen is still too small to survive dividing. Let's wait until it's much bigger. Yours is the Parsley Aralia with its short leaf fronds. The Ming Aralia has long, droopy fronds. Take care, Tomás Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 16Jan 06, 2024 6:46 pm rogerchan3 Hi Tomas and Michal, I do have a small seedling that can share. I’m really afraid it’s going to kark it. Tomás Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 18Jan 07, 2024 10:11 am Hi Tomas, Is Canberra still very cold? Poor little baby! Hope it can make it. The seedling that I showed was already split from the parent plant for 6 months. I think it can survive travelling to Canberra Though is not Ming Aralia, not sure if you would like to have it? Hi Michal, I just made another cutting. Still in greenhouse - fingers crossed! You may have to wait before I can mail to you. Cheers/Roger Re: Where to by Ming Aralia (Polyscias Fruticose) in Sydney? 20Jan 07, 2024 4:10 pm rogerchan3 Hi Tomas, Is Canberra still very cold? Now is actually a good time with the non-winter season (I hesitate to use the word ‘summer’ now). I’m cautious about showing my private address on a web thread - can I email you? I’m at tomasflamenco@gmail.com My Ming was doing ok in the bathroom, then I moved house and perhaps the lighting was insufficient and it suddenly started yellowing.
