I thought for sure when we put the CB fence up that I would loose my standard Azalea, but this is the best it’s looked since I put it in a few seasons ago.

Thanks Dy Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Standard Azalea 6Sep 25, 2008 8:15 pm Michelle does your azalea's name start with a k? I'm sure I had that one and it was something like kiku ( that missing a letter or 2 or kirin? ) it seemed to be a japanese name.
Looks terrific btw Re: Standard Azalea 7Sep 25, 2008 8:22 pm Not sure, I’ll look in the morning for you. Internal and External Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide http://www.denovoconcepts.com Re: Standard Azalea 8Sep 26, 2008 12:23 am Do you mean a Kurume azalea? Don't know much about them. I do know that my Mum's azalea is just gorgeous this year. It is up against a brick wall, so maybe the heat from the wall/fence helps? Must take a drive along Epping Road and see what those azaleas look like - they're normally stunning.
Judie Re: Standard Azalea 9Sep 26, 2008 7:29 am Judie I think that's a type. thought maybe not. this was an actual name of a specific azalea.
It's been a good few years since I've bought azaleas so I can't remember. But I do like that one and I am pretty sure it was in my garden at the old house. I have to research into them as I'm hoping they'll grow well down here. I had to put a lot of extra into the soil to keep the less hardy ones growing where i lived before. It really wasn't the perfect location or climate for them. Re: Standard Azalea 10Sep 26, 2008 10:12 am yes that is correct. Most modern varieties are types of Kurume.
A bit like Sasanqua and Japonica Camelias. That one looks like it might be Pink Lace? that is a pretty common one that looks much like that one Hey Michelle, once they finish flowering, clip them back. Take them back to the 3rd node down each stem. From there you will have around 3-5 new shoots emerge from that point. That will be 3-5 times the flower next year! If you cut using some floral snips or fine point secies just a few mill above each node it will shoot very quickly. If there is an inch or so of nothing but stem it will take ages to grow back. When you clip them the length of the bit of stem above the node will dictate the speed at which the plant recovers. You can use those techniques to control how fast your plant grows without having to do it with fertilisers or water If you clip them many times before next years flower season the potential for flower increases by 3-5 times each clip.! The volume of flowers will absolutely amaze you! You won't see leaf That goes for any shrub or hedge plant... or any plant This is mainly useful when hedges and topiarys are young and developing. they will grow faster and denser Re: Standard Azalea 11Sep 26, 2008 10:38 am Now there’s NO excuse for any of us to not have the best gardens, with all the advice Fu Manchu has given us.
Thanks Fu Manchu By the way I bought my Bin Die yesterday…..spraying this weekend! But there was definitely one that started with a K that had a similar flower as well. At one stage I had about 20 of them in several parts of the garden. . All different but by the time we sold the house I only had 3 hardier ones left. Terrific info about clipping too. I'm going to file that away so I can refer to it once my garden gets started. Re: Standard Azalea 15Sep 27, 2008 8:03 pm I'll have a go at finding some popular K varieties tomorrow
Yeah also with the other tips, have a go on anything in the garden. Do some experiments on just a few branches on any shrub. do a few short and a few long and see which grows first What we have done in a few theatres ( including my own) is run 2 layers of 13mm gyprock, but sounds insulation especially for the bass is really tricky as a lot of that… 4 2539 |
