I'm currently in a rental till July next year in the Kellyville area of Sydney. Looking to do a small reno on the current lawn as it's come out of winter in pretty poor shape. Not a complete do-over, as it's a rental and don't want to keep the kids off the grass for too many weeks
I've already done a couple of "maintenance" steps. Treated quite a bit of clover and bindii patches that had sprung up. (which explains some of the yellowing patches) and found quite alot of moss along the back fence line (lack of drainage after the recent big rains and shade) and some in the front yard as well. I've already treated those areas with iron sulfate to kill off the moss. I also found that the soil itself was slightly too acidic so put down some lime... but realised this may have actually been better done after the aeration
At the moment, I'm thinking along these lines
- Thursday - scalp the lawn
- Friday - aerate
- Sunday - topdress with 80/20 topsoil and then overseed and fertilse
- water, water and more water
My only quandry is that the yards are a mix of kikuyu and qld blue couch. The front is pretty much a hodge-podge mix-up but in the back, it's pretty much kikuyu around the fence lines and couch in the "middle" of the lawn. So.... should I overseed with with a mix of the existing, should I just pick one type to overseed with or should I use both but keep them to the areas where that grass is already established (ie, kikuyu seed in the kiku area and couch in the couch area)

We are making two applications, with bankwest and NAB which ever comes back at the earliest will go ahead with it. Just doing that my broker wants to do.

Hi we have just done exactly what you are describing, we are 18 months down the line. We brought a 70's house that needed loads of renovating, which we had never done…
