Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 08, 2019 1:36 pm Hi 22 months ago we moved into our new home. My family and I live at Grafton on the NSW north coast and have a subtropical climate with a distinct wet and dry period. Bugger all rain in winter, then picks up with thunderstorms in October with traditionally heavy rain from January through to March. We did not get a landscape package as I intend to do the work myself. However due to lack of money I have not done a lot of work in the yard and a mix lawn has grown. I have managed to eradicate many weeds including Paddys Lucerne, Creeping Charlie, Carpet Grass and Crab Grass. Still have a mixture of winter weeds such as Bindii and Winter Grass plus others. Basically a couple different varieties of couch and some strategic plantings of buffalo in shady areas. I have mowed high and regularly to encourage some lawn coverage for our kids and had been using Scotts Lawn Builder as well. Recently I acquired about 50 rolls of Winter Green Couch for free which I have already laid. Its time to move onto organic treatments to improve the long term health of the soil. I have many craters in the lawn from pulling weeds and recently put organic compost on the front lawn to try and level it (remove the craters). The backyard is still suffering dreadfully from compaction. Should I use a rotary hoe and tear up the couch sections of the yard and start over and hope the buffalo slowly spreads through out? The front yard is couch as it was easier as the neighbour already had it. Will Powerfeed and Seasol gradually breakdown the compacted soil? I will be posting pictures in the future as I will also need advice on garden/landscape design. Cheers 4 9060 I have stone pavement (?) in my backyard around the pool.
