While I was trying to level the backyard for landscaping, I noticed there’s some water in the soil, near to the alfresco. So I excavated that small area and saw there’s some water standing below the stormwater pipe. I called my site supervisor (SS) to look into this, and he engaged their plumbing guys to check. The plumbing guys after checking said there is a leakage in the pipe, so they fixed the pipe. But while they were fixing the pipe, there was lot of water in the trench. I thought that water would drain away in some time. But to my surprise, water didn’t get drain away a bit even after couple of days. So I thought to remove the water myself, and after clearing almost 20 buckets of water, I could still see water coming from below the pipe or soil. So, I notified my SS again, and after attending the site, SS said there’s no issue, and that its natural for ground to retain water as its winter time, and will take time to dry out...:(. I told my SS that there had been no rain in past few weeks, but he had no answer for it. Request your expert opinion to advise how can I fix this issue…. could it be a trench slope issue or drainage issue or something else. The main concern I have is that if water continues to stand there for such a long time, it could impact foundation of house/slab in future. Thanks in advance! Re: Backyard Drainage Issue...Need suggestions 5Jul 15, 2019 2:40 pm TheBigHouse My guess is a leak in water supply somewhere. Maybe your place, maybe neighbours. How can I check leakage in water supply ? Also, I tried digging at other two spots along the same line, and could water there as well. To me, it seems that water is getting retained in soil, may be due to incorrect slope of trench, which is causing water to divert to this point, rather than going outwards of house. You first need to either confirm or eliminate the pipe as the source. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Cleaner Neater Smarter Cheaper Supa Gutter Pumper. It will also be helpful if you have your site plan with relative levels and handdraw or markup a photo showing the pipe location. What's likely is that your soil is clay, and when the drainage line is excavated to lay the pipe, the plumbers back fill with aggregate and thus create a "French drain" of kinds. This side effect creates an absorbsion trench that can soak and channel surface run off / and sub surface water from "uphill". Take in the higher ground above your site, and note where runoff and other sources of stormwater come from along with runoff on your own plot. You can also create mounds / swales of soil to direct runoff to your drains rather than into your trenches. Can you please clarify last paragraph in more details pls, as I am not good with drainage terms. I've attached a picture of site drainage plan - blue dots are the surface points, orange are 2 extra surface points which were laid at a later stage, and hence not included in actual drawings. Any other suggestions/recommendations which I could try or as SS to look for ? Thanks for the drainage diagram. That clearly shows trench lines down each side in nice straight lines. Perfect for channeling water. Now we need to understand how the block level slopes from high ground to low ground. Do you have a site survey? Where on this plan is the section that's collecting lots of water?
