Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 12, 2019 10:53 pm Hi, looking for some advice.. We had an old timber retaining wall on our property, just under 1m high. It looked to my untrained eye like hardwood rather than treated pine. It was looking pretty shabby and starting to pull apart at the corners. We're currently getting a new concrete block one installed to replace it, With the layout of the new wall we are enclosing a slightly larger piece of land (giving us a bit more flat space to use in future).. so we obviously need to fill this in. The landscaper has left quite a bit of the old timber that was knocked down just sitting where it fell in piles behind the new wall. My concern is that if this timber is left in the ground it will eventually rot and compress, and the flat retained land will start to sink. The landscaper tells me it's not an issue. I don't want to give the guys a hard time over nothing, but i am planning to stay on the property for the foreseeable future and i don't want a headache in 5, 10, 15 years. Should i trust my instincts and make sure it's removed or shall i take his word for it. appreciate anyone's thoughts cheers Re: Old wood in retained land fill 3Mar 13, 2019 6:42 am alexp79 you would need to remove the timber (and any organical material per se) and put low aggregate gravel such as blue metal behind the wall. Like i said, i dont want to be an annoying customer but i would like it done correctly Re: Old wood in retained land fill 5Apr 08, 2019 5:45 pm Thanks mate. Late reply on my part sorry. All done amd dusted now. I asked the guys nicely again if we could remove the timber. They said they would. Wether or not they did i dont know, but i guess you've got to trust people sometimes Now to sort out the stormwater yeah i couldnt picture it issue either, but i could clearly picture what they were doing wrong haha 2 5302 2 4356 If you're in a flood zone, not only are you dealing with the importation of fill and laying it down in 150 lifts to achieve compaction, you're going to have to consider… 4 5537 |
