Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 03, 2011 3:15 pm Guys If anyone is looking for either of these in the Melbourne area for cheap, cheap, cheap, then Exfoliators (http://www.exfoliators.com.au/) in Dandenong sell direct to the public. You would need to call them for a price and it depends on quantity, but for example, I found the cheapest 100l bag of Exfoliators Perlite on sale at Hydroponic in Boronia (http://www.hydroponic.com.au/index.htm) for $37.50 per bag (much better than the maximum size of 15l that our local Bunnings carry for around $14 - it's almost $12 for a 5l bag!!). However, if you were to buy 500l direct from Exfoliators (yes, you can collect it), it would be $25 per 100l bag. Not sure how much I need as yet, but if there are others in the area interested in bulk perlite / vermiculite for cheap, then we could perhaps arrange a very large supply and see if we could get the prices down further!! Anyone interested? PS - Vermiculite is roughly the same price if anyone was wondering!! Re: Perlite & Vermiculite in Melbourne Area 2Oct 05, 2011 12:10 pm Hi Kerry $25 per 100l bag is not really cheap (if you are asked to buy in bulk). Most of the places i have enquired they were selling for 22 per 100ltr bag. Dont get confused with the volume of the bag(100 ltr) it only weighs 3-4 Kg. According to few threads here you need a Kg for a m2. therefore 100ltr will cover only 3-4 m2. Let me know if you like to know suplliers i asked the price from. Re: Perlite & Vermiculite in Melbourne Area 3Oct 05, 2011 1:42 pm Hi Raj - I'm not confused by the volume and the weight... in this instance anyway!! The 100l bag I currently have weighs 6kg. As for area covered, it depends on the reason you're using it, the type of soil you're using it on and what you're using it in conjunction with. There's no hard and fast rules, though you're probably looking at about 10cm minimum coverage (over the top then dug into spade depth, but preferably the top 30cm of soil) if you're using it to aerate compressed clay soil like I am. Ideally more, though I'm also adding organic compost, zeolite and coco peat, rather than just adding the perlite to the existing soil. And yes please, do let me know which suppliers you received prices from. If they're closer to where I live and cheaper, then they will obviously be the preferred option for me. No need to pm the info, it should be okay here I think, but Fu will move it if not. Offer will still stand to do a bulk buy if anyone is interested. Re: Perlite & Vermiculite in Melbourne Area 4Oct 05, 2011 2:23 pm KerryF Hi Raj - I'm not confused by the volume and the weight... in this instance anyway!! I was when i was buying zeolite, perlite to do the soil prep according to Fu's information (mind you i have no clue about gardening and have no experience),then i calculated i needed 21 kg of perlite. rang around and got the price and i thought 100ltrs will be plenty more than 21 kg. Then when i picked them up 3 kg. Suppliers (only two i remember) Duralite Horticulture Supplies,54 Old Dandenong Road, Heatherton,3202 E.E. Muir & Sons Pty Ltd KerryF Offer will still stand to do a bulk buy if anyone is interested. I am happy to buy couple of bags (depending on the price).
