Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 05, 2018 6:45 pm Attached is a photo of the water pooling behind house before I have had the drainage put in and the drainage that our landscaper has done. Yet to get decent rainfall so do not know how it will perform. I wanted him to direct the water away from house and into existing drainage but he said the grade was not correct to be able to cut the current drainage grate (in pic) to the ground level. that o instead he has basically built two trenches and filled with gravel (pictures attached). I can't see how this will work as the soil is not very porous (clay). Should I be concerned with what has been done. You say that you are on clay, what is your soil classification? Was your house handed over without the correct grade away from the Slab? Did you have your slab levels checked during construction? What is the current height of your Damp Proof Course (DPC) above the ground level? Who did the original 'drainage'? The grate is well above ground level. I can't see any benefit from having the grate, you would have been better off having ag pipe unless you intend to pave the area. Is there a silt pit? Ground water must not be collected and diverted straight to stormwater, there must be a silt pit. If the two gravel filled trenches are undrainable rubble pits, then they will quickly fill and if the soil is reactive, the water will permanently slowly seep into the clay and that outcome may not be a positive experience. The site level away from the slab needs to be corrected and a proper landscaping solution that protects the slab chosen. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Think landscapers drainage is not going to work 3Oct 06, 2018 7:53 am The home builder was Metricon, the land slopes downwards to the font, but at the back of the house where the original cut was done I guess the area is lower then on the sides where the water would generally flow out to the street.. I did hire a landscaper and this was the solution they put in. I do not even no where to start, there is a deck going over that area and eventually a patio roof so if it is going to be an issue I would like to fix it before that. So obviously the landscaper is not qualified enough to provide a correct solution (which I have already paid for), what do i need to look for, is it a plumber, engineer ... ? Re: Think landscapers drainage is not going to work 4Oct 06, 2018 10:34 am It is difficult without being on site and knowing the levels but it would seem that Metricon has handed over a property without the correct slope away from the slab. The best solution would be to have an undercover paved area with a small feature retaining wall and have an ag pipe on the high side where an adequate slope should be achievable. You would normally consult an experienced drainer for advice. Is your soil classification reactive? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage.
