Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 21, 2018 8:24 pm Hi h1, Just turning to the collective experience of all DIY (and experienced!) landscapers on here. I have tried Google but there is quite a variety of methods and some are not using the same type of paver or are have a different design. I would just like to use brick pavers as edging in my garden to separate a pebbled area and the grass. I haven't yet put in the pebbles or grass. I'd basically like to do something like this, with the same type of brick paver: viewtopic.php?p=1385666#p1385666 I just wanted to ask what is the best method of laying these - I am thinking of just putting mortar directly onto the ground and then laying the brick on top. Will this be sufficient to prevent movement (the soil and pebbles will be filled in afterwards) and whether mortar is required between each brick. Is there a more efficient alternative (e.g. concrete?) Many thanks, SS Re: Tips/ guide to laying brick edging 3Jul 22, 2018 7:13 am arcadelt Your proposed method will work, but without steel reinforcing the mortar bed will eventually crack and the pavers will move. I’m really interested in this topic as I’m wanting to do the same. So what steel would you recommend to use and do you put that down first then the mortar on top. I was thinking of pea gravel first then mortar but I’m concerned with movement too Re: Tips/ guide to laying brick edging 4Jul 22, 2018 7:26 pm trimum So what steel would you recommend to use and do you put that down first then the mortar on top. I was thinking of pea gravel first then mortar but I’m concerned with movement too You would be laying down a reinforced concrete footing, so you add reinforcing steel in a similar way you would for a slab. Just be careful with building stability during construction, that is when the structure may be weakened, refer to your engineering drawings for stability methodology. 1 7205 I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1921 Hey There. No problems re jumping in. My original question was "should I have waterproofed" the concrete slab before putting batons down. We have been told we should… 7 4321 |
