Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 08, 2015 2:55 pm Hi All, My backyard is empty and unfinished, just wonder what would you do with to make it nicer and functional (budget around 4K) I've attached few photos and the plan...I like to deck the whole thing but not sure if it is actually possible..I like to have two small spaces for plants as well. If you just give me some ideas or give me any directions, I'd appreciate it a lot Re: what can I do with my backyard? 2Jun 08, 2015 5:40 pm I would consider getting some tall shrubs in large tubs to break up the view of the fence. With such a narrow space there could be problems with roots if you planted shrubs so close to the house. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: what can I do with my backyard? 5Jun 13, 2015 12:15 pm I don't think a deck is unachievable. It just means that a non-typical low-profile structure is needed to support the deck. Just get some quotes. If you are in Sydney I can give you contact details for the fellow that did my landscaping. He'd certainly be capable of doing this. I also recommend that you have the unsightly rainwater tank and other unsightly utilities on the wall of your house hidden. Have a look at my build thread for pics of what can be achieved in a small space. Also consider paving as an alternative to a deck. Less maintenance. It's amazing how a painted fence makes the space look so much more complete. Would look great with some potted shrubs/plants. It's funny how when spicing up inside, a fresh coat of paint is the first thing people do, but when it comes to landscaping, a coating of paint on the old pailing fence tends to be the last thing or left off the list completely. Thanks for your suggestion. I'm gonna do that first thing. Do you think is bit too much to paint it white? Or should I just go with a simple varnish/stain paint? Now I'm looking to pave the whole thing and leave stripe of soil next to fence for plants. Do you know how much it would cost to get a paver to lay down the tiles? Total area is around 55m2 Re: what can I do with my backyard? 9Jul 03, 2015 11:05 am A bbq for sure and a garden bed along the back fence. Re: what can I do with my backyard? 10Mar 22, 2016 11:15 am If you are really after a decking look, you could consider getting those decking tile things and laying them over the top of your existing concrete/paving. http://www.northernriverstimber.com.au/ ... king-tiles These are what I am talking about, you can get them from a variety of places including Masters, Ebay, etc - just google decking tiles. But I also agree with everyone else - a painted fence and some nice tall shrubs will break it up a bit. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com It's possible but a soak well is usually much larger. Your 'soak well' only holds 424 litres when full. What is your soil type? Soak wells need sandy soils. 10 9369 Need advice on the backyard plan above.
