Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 23, 2016 12:23 pm Most people on here continue their own house thread for their landscaping. I did this too, but after looking for specific landscaping threads and not finding much I thought I'd start one.
It probably won't help anyone as we are novices, I enjoy gardening but struggle to keep plants alive, we're very much beginner DIY'ers and have made mistakes. That said we're half way through, so I'll post a couple pictures to skip to where we're up to: Start: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 2Sep 23, 2016 12:35 pm Then we moved dirt, and built retaining walls. Chose to use Austral Hastings, in Charcoal. It's ended up being MUCH more expensive than we anticipated. Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 6Sep 23, 2016 1:50 pm I've drawn our house and yard in 3D to work out with my husband how we'll build things. Easier to sell my ideas to him too Our "rough" plan for the front: http://i1365.photobucket.com/albums/r759/cat_dunc/Driveway%204_zpsqx8gn9qh.jpg Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 7Sep 23, 2016 3:06 pm I really like your raised garden. I am continuing my thread through the landscaping. I think it is just as important to get the exterior right as much as the interior. I am continuing my thread through the landscaping. I think it is just as important to get the exterior right as much as the interior. Thanks Yeah it sure is Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 11Sep 23, 2016 3:53 pm We're unsure what to do down the side. Ideally concrete it, but it would be so expensive Either way have decided to level it a bit more as the retaining wall was done a bit high compared to the base of the fence. So have put in a little timber wall along the fence. Soooo many little posts. Damn long skinny block! Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 12Sep 23, 2016 3:59 pm Next we pretty much back tracked entirely on our backyard plans, decided we couldn't turn the car around in the back... so moved all the dirt back to where it was Arghhh! So we lost all the grass in the mean time. Frreaaking argh. This is our new plan: Far less extravagant than my original plans buuut oh well. It's cheaper! We need to work out how to make these into steps: And have started planning the little garden beds: Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 13Sep 23, 2016 4:10 pm Annnnd this brings me up to date. This is the front, plants have grown a little bit and we're loving how it looks. And this is where we're up to with the garden beds: You might notice we put the sleepers on the wrong side of the posts Doh. Wee bit of an oversight in the midst of discussions on how to do it. We'll put a sleeper on the inside as well now, then top with a seat sleeper. Stairs so far: Re: Newcastle home landscape journey 14Sep 23, 2016 4:15 pm Next up is:
Re: Newcastle landscape journey 15Sep 25, 2016 10:09 pm Wowzers u have done so much. Landscaping is such hard work. I am enjoying gardening but the actual landscaping killed me. I'm glad it's over. U guys had ur work cut out for u and it looks amazing. Well done. Love ur path with the timber and stones Re: Newcastle landscape journey 16Sep 25, 2016 10:15 pm livpal5 Wowzers u have done so much. Love ur path with the timber and stones Thanks so much Yeah i agree with the landscaping being hard work. I'm enjoying it but it's also stressful and incredibly time consuming. It's so hard with two little kids - I mean you need two people to do the heavy lifting, but who then stops the kids from hurting themselves on something while you're doing the work. We're pushing the family baby sitting to its max and also have the kids in an extra day of day care each week just so we can try squeeze more time to do this. Cant. Wait. Until. It's. Done. Re: Newcastle landscape journey 18Oct 01, 2016 7:21 pm Wow were in newy are you? I have been through this myself over the past year on a uch smaller scale/block. You should be proud of your achievements and yes the cost to complete a new unlandscaped house is an eye opener especially if you want to go beyond crap $5 a roll grass a 1980's style letterbox a cheap Bunnings style clothesline and a $10 tree out the front which most spec builders explain a fully landscaped block. Far from what their display homes entail lol...... Re: Newcastle landscape journey 19Oct 01, 2016 8:17 pm 6banga Wow were in newy are you? Re: Newcastle landscape journey 20Nov 25, 2016 6:33 pm Argh I wrote an update then it deleted itself! It went something like this: We've got DA approval for the Patio Roof - at last! See home thread for update. Our landscaping is taking a while, but mixing it with work and spending time with the kids, so it will get there. We ordered pavers from Wyong (Stone Masonry), had them delivered for a good price. Ended up being $2.17 per paver including delivery, we got three pallets (about 700 pavers). Spent about 5 months trolling gumtree for second hand pavers. Ended up with two piles of different pavers - neither of which are enough, so took the plunge and just bought them. Will use this one here around the shed (look at their bad quality! I suck at gumtree, too nice to say no once I get there ): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And this one around the pond as a feature: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ready for pavers... until hubby went off and googled weed mat under paving and decided he didn't want it there. We concluded he'll be weeding the path! My Dad is a gem, and actually did most of the prep for this part, he put in a pipe & drain under the tap. There's compacted road base under the weed mat. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Done! Looking smart if I do say so myself. Space for a nice little garden. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our little dude LOVEs this path. He pushes everything and anything out the house onto it, then gets stuck trying to bushwhack it around the back to the rear patio. He'll be stoked when it all links/ goes somewhere You should check your detail drawings, it may show downpipe within brick pier. 14 14597 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 36517 Ideally you would engage a landscaper to give you some insight what they may need in the space to make your vision come to life… 1 14326 |
