Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 23, 2018 3:35 pm Hey Everyone, New to the forums, so be gentle We have a back hedge with 2.5m pittosporums which we will no longer need in future when we do our backyard renovations. Would we be able to sell these established hedges or would they be too established and any chance of removing them for sale would effectively kill them? Was just wondering if it's possible. Many thanks Dave Re: Pittosporum hedge - can we sell or just cut it down? 2Apr 23, 2018 8:56 pm Hard to make any judgement without seeing your pittosporums ... pic? You can try to dig one out to see if it is easy ... but after half way digging the first one most likely you will think of grabbing chainsaw to cut down the lot... I'm saying this because I did dug out three large azaleas before demolition, one of the azalea had a root ball of around 50 cm diameter and took over one hour and three people to dig it out. At one point I did thought "Is it worth saving"... than I again I was remind of a large pot of azalea for the price of $895... I just wouldn't know how to "separate" them as they all seem to have grown into each other to form the hedge.... unless it's as simple as just cutting them apart Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hard to get a sense of scale, but the green hedge part is ~2.5m high and has grown out to at least 1m from the back fence. I feel that when it comes time to remove them, a chainsaw might be my best friend, but I don't want to waste them if they can be used by someone else for an instant hedge. Cheers! Dave Re: Pittosporum hedge - can we sell or just cut it down? 4Apr 24, 2018 10:11 am Hi Dave, You do have a very nice hedge. Yes I do feel your pain standing in front of beautiful hedge with a chainsaw. Have you advertise on ebay may be some professional landscaper wanted for part of their landscaping project. Even after with absolute care of digging out to transplant into a large pot (where ever it may be going) or even transplanting in your yard.... you do needs to consider high chances that it may not survive... There are times in life ....... have to make ruthless decisions as much as I looooves trees.... chainsaw may not be enough ... perhaps bulldozer Build Thread : viewtopic.php?=31&t=81624 Landscape Thread : viewtopic.php?f=19&t=86133 Re: Pittosporum hedge - can we sell or just cut it down? 5Apr 24, 2018 11:04 am shazaw Hi Dave, You do have a very nice hedge. I'm guessing a professional landscaper might have something to say around these, whether they are salvageable or not based on their experience. I don't know how hardy these plants are and yes, you're right, they might not even survive, but wanted a professionals' opinion too Thanks Dave Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home. Visit for… 1 15812 PM me your email.
