Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 24, 2018 6:55 pm Hi All, A few years now EZ grass went down in the backyard. It’s south facing yard so areas up against the house get minimal sun until later afternoon or early morning. Soil was prepped as per Fu’s soil guide. Areas getting full sun are thriving it’s just the immediate strip along the house that’s struggling. I’m just about to give up. It’s full of clover. Anyone have any suggestions on what to try or replace with? I don’t want to replace the entire lawn just maybe a variety along that shady patch that will do better. I would make this a garden bed with shade tolerant plants that don't need much water. Consider a bed of river pebbles, with some large potted plants. Then you're watering the pots, not the whole area. There will be some drainage from the pots, but less than if you were watering the lawn several times a week. Even a shade tolerant plants in the ground as a garden bed would be preferable to lawn. Even shade tolerant lawn requires several hours of sun a day so I think you're fighting an uphill battle to grow lawn there. My land is 260m2 (10m x 26m) located in claymore NSW.
