Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 03, 2017 8:54 pm Buffalo lawn was installed earlier in the year and did well during the winter to establish itself. Last couple of weeks as temperatures have increased and rain has stopped parts of the lawn are showing signs of patching. Initially discolouration to yellow, brown and then white. I've checked retic and watering times and these seem okay. Watering cycle is early morning and 10 to 15 mins. I recently aerated the areas. Ground was pretty compacted in these places. So I wonder if drainage was an issue. I haven't added any fertiliser yet. I usually mow quite high. Any ideas? Bacteria or just dry? A secondary issues is another type of grass appearing. I'm less worried about this for now. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Buffalo Lawn Repair Patches 4Nov 25, 2017 7:57 pm Pretty much the cause was heat and under watering. A few things: 1) Aerated with a pitch fork and screw driver. Making sure to leave an open hole rather than compress the soil. Usually easier to aerate after watering. I found the some of the ground rock hard (sandy soil). 2) Checked, cleaned and modified sprinklers. I changed the range (distance) on a few of my pop ups to ensure the patches were getting hit by water. I checked by hand to ensure the grass was wet. Also cleaned up any grass growing over or near to retic heads to ensure dirt/sand was out of the way. 3) Retic goes on every second day early morning. I adjusted this to go on at sun rise and increased the duration to around 20 minutes per station. The above stopped the patches increasing but they remained brown for weeks. However once I added Seasol green shoots appeared within 48 hours. Almost back to new a week later. 4) Applied Seasol (40ml in 9litres of water). There are various Seasol products but I used the general white bottle. There are instructions on the back that recommend application every 2 weeks.
