Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 30, 2017 2:55 pm I have never really thought about this, however one of my friends had me concerned about the issue. I excavated my backyard land about a metre in depth (I now have 5 standard masonry blocks - 190mm high as which are acting as a retaining wall), for an extension my architect had designed at the back of my house. It involved extending the ground floor granny flat for a rumpus room and balcony, and the upper floor for a family room which will have a breakfast bar extending out and connecting from the kitchen and inside the room will also have a small bath and laundry, plus a balcony on the other side of the house. The construction is almost finished, however it has cost me a lot of time, money and headache. One of my friends told me I should have not excavated my backyard as it would decrease my land value. Whilst I was aware of this, I had informed of a property evaluator of my plans for the extension prior to construction and they advised me that everyone has a different taste and there isn't a certain rule of thumb. What are your honest opinions? Fashion/taste/style. Landscaping is usually to the home owners liking which rightly is to be expected. Don't pay any credit to those negative opinions, the point isn't to build for others, but rather to your own purposes.
