i recently completed building a new home in the outer northern suburbs of brisbane, and have noticed that my new grass is starting to go yellow. it was laid by the builder and has been down roughly 2 weeks. i have been watering it once a day as per council regualtions, but it seems to stay yellow. what can i use to get it back to green??? there seems to be more yellow then green. what tips do poeple have to get my grass grwoing again?? any particular products i should be using?? Re: New Grass 2Aug 27, 2008 4:58 pm sorry,

Re: New Grass 6Aug 27, 2008 7:44 pm if its a buffalo or couch grass it will yellow and brown of in colder months Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: New Grass 8Aug 27, 2008 8:27 pm It is very typical of turf to go yellow in the cold as mentioned. In fact it won't respond well to fertiliser just yet either (well by that I mean more results v's what you spend). However once the soil warms and the days get longer your lawn will respond well to feeding, watering and warmth.
Being so new it wouldn't be advisable to use lawn fertiliser just yet. It will be producing roots at a rapid rate just now and that will be using up energy stored within the, lets call them the, "stems" of the buffalo. Now new food sources are not going to be available to the plant (it can be in the soil but the lawn may not be taking it in) for a little while yet as I said, so just wait, it's normal and it will be all good. In the mean time feed the soil, blood and bone and go get some "seasol for lawns". You will be happy. This will help till it gets warmer. You may see an improvement in lawn colour but the lawn will get stronger, which is more important. It will also give you a better return on what you spend. Be mindful of watering at night. it is not advisable. Night watering "can" encourage fungal diseases but as mentioned it has worked well for southerner44 with no harm done.
