Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 08, 2017 12:10 pm Hi Fu, Thank you for your tireless advise! I have been reading all of your advice regarding soil prep as I am about to embark on a lawn project. New lawn area is about 90m2. Will be starting process next weekend with the hope to lay turf at months end. I'm in Victoria so sourcing some things have been difficult. This is my list for prep: Yellow Sand - Thinking 1m3 Zeolite - 2 x 25 kg bags. Powerfeed - Not sure on quantity for soil prep. Any advice? Seasol - 10L Drum (500ml per application). For once turf is laid. Molasses - 10L Drum (1 cup diluted in 500ml of warm water per application). For once turf is laid. Spongolite - Cant find anywhere in Melbourne, only WA. Olsen's Green Bio - Business went bust. Certified Organic Compost - Only 1 company in Melbourne stock and they don't sell direct. Although they say all organic compost is mostly the same. Thinking 4m3 Can I get away without the Spongolite? Is there a similar product? I have been advised that Rockdust from the diggers club could be used as a replacement for Olsen's Bio Green. Is this okay? What quantity would you suggest? Cheers Josh Re: Soil Preperation For Turf - Help Fu Manchu 3Sep 11, 2017 1:05 pm Bit of an update... I managed to find one company who does certified organic compost in Melbourne which is Enviromix http://www.enviromix.com.au/about.html. They do not however sell to public, only organic farmers. They did advise that they do sell to Bark King in Montrose who then splits it into a 1 to 3 ratio with their own soil. However Bark King have agreed to supply just the certified organic compost to me. Managed to track down the people who used to run Olsen's Bio Green. They now run Bioactive Soil Solutions http://www.bioactivesoilsolutions.com.au/index.php/products/commercial-products/bactivate and the product is called Bactivate. They believe this is a better product than the Bio Green. They again don't sell to public yet, but are currently looking for stockists, but because I found them they agreed to sell to me if I wish to use the product. Both the guys I spoke to from Enviromix and Bioactive were really helpful and very excited about the soil preparation. They really believe in the correct preparation and organic products. Not chemicals. Really passionate about what they do. Still not willing to have Spongolite sent over from Perth. The postage is too expensive. I have everything now, just waiting to see how the weather is this week. Expecting a lot of rain so will probably be too muddy to turn over and level I would think. I thought it was supposed to be Spring!!
