Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 23, 2008 8:06 pm Hi everyone, ive been getting quotes for landscaping the front yard. All the quotes are basically similar in price just under $4000.
Im going to have a dry creek bed affect, with raised garden beds. $500 worth of plants. stepping stones, edging, large rocks. pebbles soil, mulch( from the City of Casey's Garden Mulch program) 8metres free.. with $55 delivery charge i thought a good bargain). My dilemma starts here.. and need some advice.. I chose the landscaper as i have seen his work and gave he some good advice on what i could do with the front yard. I told him if the quote was reasonable i would pay him cash and wipe off the gst if that was ok with him... hope Mr Rudd not reading this ) he seemed ok with this and said he would try and keep the quote as low as possible. Anyway quote has come in .. I think well this is not including garden mulch and is the end result is the same as the other quotes from the other landscapers that have included mulch in their quotes. 2 I then rang him and told him again i will pay cash if you wipe off the gst.. silence his end he said well i have kept the quote low and im not sure whether i can disregard the gst .but will think about it.. well haven't heard back from him. im feeling disappointed that this stage as i like his work but on the other hand gst goes to the government not him. Ive got a feeling he was going to pocket the gst. As i said im disappointed but feel he cant be trusted . Maybe im asking to much after all its a saving of a few hundred dollars which i could do with and i know its law to pay gst . Maybe im being unreasonable here. What are landscapers charging for their labour these days? i reckon it would only take a few days to landscape the front. Re: help!! landscaping quote and gst 2Aug 24, 2008 9:40 am Sorry Clath, I do not mean to preach but isn't your approach a bit unAustralian?
GST does not go to the governemnt, it goes to cover our needs as citizens of this country, health, education, services for old people, the list is very long. As a citizen I do not agree that our taxes might be spent on wars but we can protest by voting for somebody else. That said, if you liked the landscapers work, why go into the shady area and try to avaid paying tax? For a business person like him it is illegal to do so therefore I am not surprised he was reluctant. You can always accept his quote and pay by cheque. Cheers wish you luck with your garden old fashioned Maggie Re: help!! landscaping quote and gst 3Aug 24, 2008 10:11 am Clath, the ATO has ways of checking out if business's are paying enough GST - so to him the risk is not really worth it.
Sure you save a couple of hundred, but he is risking several thousand if he gets investigated plus the fines. If the price is right - you like his owrk - then just use him. Otherwise - find some shady ******* landscaper who does not care if he is in business in the futre. and as maggie says - taxes enable programs like free mulch to happen too Steve They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 2790 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 31778 Ha all, I am now about half way (maybe a bit more) through my build with Carlisle Homes - double-storey knockdown/rebuild project.
