Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jun 01, 2017 12:14 pm Hi all, We had an infestation of fishbone fern down one side of our house, including growing in a big boulder retaining wall. I used roundup to kill the ones in the wall, and pulled out the ones in the garden bed by hand. A photo is attached showing the current state of it all. I have two specific questions I would love some help with. 1.Many roundup applications have got the wall ferns down to the ugly skeleton/stalks that remain. If I hit these with the whipper snipper/hedger is there a risk of it spreading into the park next door? Is there any other way I can get rid of all those dead stalks? There are still a few tiny bits of green that I'm worried about. 2. After pulling out the ferns that were growing in the garden bed, a bunch of new shoots are coming up again (as you can see in the bottom right hand corner of the photo). I haven't used roundup here because I didn't want to damage the other plants with off-spray. I know there are the balls still in the soil though, which is why they're coming back. Is our only option to pull everything out and scrape off that top 10cm of soil to get rid of all the little balls, and lose the other plants along the way? Would a better option be to use roundup, and if so, does that tend to kill all the balls as well? Any advice much appreciated!
