Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 20, 2017 2:11 pm I have some couch grass that has grown quite well under some trees and I need some advice on the best way to kill the couch without killing the trees. Some of the trees are fruiting and will go dormant in winter (so will the grass) so can I spray those parts safely when the tree has lost its leaves? What about other trees that are evergreen? Have tried 70mm+ of pine bark mulch and the couch grows right through it, currently trying some cardboard under the mulch. Any other ideas? Re: How to kill couch grass under trees? 2Mar 24, 2017 7:09 pm You will need a herbicide called Fusilade or Fusilade Forte. You won't get these herbicides in garden centres. Generally 1ltr is the smallest size available. It's used on golf courses, farms, nurseries, etc to remove grasses from wooded areas or similar. Wont harm trees or shrubs. The opposite of what we buy to rid weeds from lawns. ~$100. Problem sorted. or fluff about with what will become $100 worth of round up only to discover it won't do the job. Currently experimenting with Vinegar and clove oil, though effective on weeds, not doing it on the couch. Kills the leaves, not the rhizome.
