Damn.. I wanted to go but forgot about it. There is a succulent farm near Dural too. Open every Saturday

One of the landscaper have suggested to have similar retaining wall for the slope at the back.
Doing retaining wall with blocks will cost more than treated pine sleepers.
My question is how long will treated pine sleeper last?

If the budget stretches then the blocks always look great. If it doesnt then you could use those really thick hardwood sleepers instead of treated pine. They'd last you ages, especially if you got 75mm thick. Way longer than the mega crappy 50mm thick treated pine we chose

Thank you cat, I'd really like to have blocks, but we have no extra cash to do blocks, even doing retaining wall with treated pine is stretching... Blocks will always looks good but in my case the land slope to the back fence... even If put blocks I will never see it from lounge room.

this scares me... we're going to do treated pine sleepers under the timber fence (s88b requirement - timber lapped and capped only)

Yep you won't see them - I'd go for timber
I read somewhere that if your block was higher than your neighbours then it was their responsibility for any retaining wall - the person who owns the lower ground has to pay for it, has anyone else heard that?
Great plants shazaw I know nothing about gardening although I appreciate beautiful gardens. I think we will be paying a landscaper for ours, we paid Burbank around $190 for a landscaping design to submit to council. We had no idea what was on it and I have been trying to find it recently to see what was on it!

We had some fence quotes done, and that is basically what they said the rule was - whoever makes the impact such as cut or fill. Our neighbour have all agreed to this method, the lower side who has cut down will pay for the retaining.

$190. Wow we got ripped. Over $1k just to show basic landscape with driveway and footpaths

Oh wow really $1k?? Ours was actually only $120 they are pretty basic I will put them up on my thread....

Pick up this blue fence sheet from site. It was on top of rubbish pile.

Now shade loving plants are under this blue sheet.

Cool shade cloth

Great re-use!!!
Sooooo many lovely plants

Growing cordylines easy....cheap and almost free!!

1. Buy cordylines in bunches from flower market. I paid $5 a bunch from Flemington flower market. You will get 5 individual cordyline in a bunch. Eventually these will be 5 plants.
2. Wash and cut off 1cm from the base of the stem
3. Place in a vase just one third of water, roots emerges from the stem in about 3 - 4 weeks

Remove Yellow leaves

Cut leaves as below. ready for planting

Thanks for the masterclass shazza!

Been thinking about plants... and how expense they are. I’m going to try your method

I have a question... do you know what these plant families are? The red purple one looks like the one you just posted actually.

And.. my one and only bromeliad finally has pups

Ehhc - yep thats a Cordy all right! Exact same as the top ones that Shazaw posted I believe.

Hooray for baby bromeliads Ehhc!

Shazaw - great idea getting them from the markets! I missed that part when I read it on my phone. What a bargain!!

To think I bought seeds to try grow them. Massive effort. They need to go in the fridge for weeks, then this then that.
Ehhc - you also seem to maybe have a Gymea Lilly in the middle, and then Yukka's all around it. At the front I think those are Rhaphiolepis 'Snow Maiden'.
