The photo below was taken from my sister's front garden. My Dad passed away April 2011 due to stomach cancer, just 4 days after his 70th birthday. My dad had one of this flowering gum tree in front of his bedroom and loves looking out and watched Lorikeets feeding on flowers. Just before renting out I saved these Irises, extremely happy that I have manage to keep these alive. Flowers don't last too long and propagating Irises should be easy but killed many. We have two in our front yard, and only two hours ago did I look at them and think "man I like those, a lot more of those would look good". Great minds think alike! I seriously can't wait to see your garden. We planted all our "free" plants that family members have grafted cut/grown for us.. its looking a mix match shambles :O Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 25Jan 10, 2017 9:18 pm cat_dunc Ohh i love the liriope. My motto on garden is very simple ...must flower, must be edible, foliage for floral arrangement. If I like the plant ... it will go in any where...where the space is available. Currently on the front landscape plan has a formal garden style, I wonder how long that will last. Different websites say different things. I should update my page Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 27Jan 13, 2017 11:27 am Hi cat_dunc,these are murraya at the back.
About 4 meters height. Correction my son think the left side murraya are about 3 meters and the far right is 4 meters. Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 30Jan 15, 2017 7:28 pm Oh you're a good plant mum! My bromeliads are burnt as anything :/ I'm taking them all out of the garden tomorrow and putting them... somewhere. Not sure where yet! Maybe under a bed sheet too Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 31Jan 25, 2017 9:03 pm This is the actual space between main house and outdoor living area. 6 meters
Upon seeing the actual distance.... I will have to redesign the garden for this area. Currently I have 3 meters of timber deck joining to the main house.... which leaves around 3 meters of garden patch. I do wants to create more privacy between the out door living area and alfresco. I may have to utilise the whole space 6 meters by 5.5 meters... cover up with plants. Hubby also mention he wants fish pond to be located underneath a foot path. So back to drawing board and more research. If you dont need to then you'd get the same look with only say 1.2 or 1.5m wide of deck. Or 900mm even will give you a splash of warm timber between the garden and your patio. That said plants filling the whole space will look terrific as well Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 34Jan 27, 2017 9:19 pm cat_dunc Were you going to use the 3m of deck for furniture? That said plants filling the whole space will look terrific as well The reason we plan to have deck is ... to be able to access into the garden from the lounge room. As there is around 50cm - 70 cm drop from the sliding door to the garden outside. So we need to have decking to step out. otherwise we have to use kitchen's sliding door just to access into garden. But after seeing the actual distance from alfresco to out door living...and by adding 3 meters deck... I feel main house area is encroaching into the outdoor living area. I feel out door living area needs its own space. The empty space in between must show element of strong structure...such as a large tree, large fish pond...a statement room claiming this is my space. So I think has to be green patch of garden from alfresco area to out door living area. I will still need to have small decking to step out from lounge room. New design 1 - Taken out all decking from lounge room to alfresco - Move path to side of out door living - Large tree to divide alfresco and out door living - Deck outside of lounge 1.5 meters Build Thread : viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81624 Landscape Thread : viewtopic.php?f=19&t=86133 Timing on page 1 Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 36Jan 27, 2017 10:56 pm Design 2
- taken out decking from lounge to alfresco - location of path from alfresco to out door living same as original plan but now longer - deck outside of lounge 1.5 meters - steps for deck longer - large tree to divide alfresco and out door living area. - any advice? I think design 1 will give more ground space Build Thread : viewtopic.php?f=31&t=81624 Landscape Thread : viewtopic.php?f=19&t=86133 Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 37Jan 28, 2017 9:38 am I vote 1! Would you consider continuing the deck along in front of alfresco just to in line with the path, then you step down from the deck onto the path? You might find it handy walking from alfresco to lounge door via the deck without needing to step on the pavers or garden? Re: Landscape design - KDR (sekisui house ) Burbank - ST Geo 39Mar 29, 2017 8:31 am I like this for the space between alfresco and outdoor living. As for croton plants simple cutting regularly will keep shape and xanadu never need any trim apart from pulling out yellowish leafs.
