Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 15, 2016 3:39 pm Hi all! I was hoping someone could give me some suggestions for a tree? I know NOTHING about them, and am happy to research but need some suggestions to start me off! These are the details: - to be planted in our front yard (in the centre of a patch that is approximately 4x10m, currently covered entirely woodchips) - Clay soil - Full sun - Evergreen preferred - Flowers are nice but not essential - 0 degree days in winter, 40 degree days in summer - High winds (sturdy roots please!) - Minimal care because I kill everything I plant Thanks! Re: Tree help (Victoria) 3Mar 28, 2018 2:35 pm Hi! We still haven’t done a great deal, whoops! We planted a cleaveland ornamental pear in the centre of the front yard, and it’s doing great (has a few super heavy duty stakes in place still because of the winds, but it’s been in for about nine months and is very healthy). We also bought some BoxOz Lonicera from HelloHello Plants and put them around the edge - they were out in on September and in that time they have gone from approx 2” high to about 10-12” high and are all touching, so it’s going to be a great little hedge. In the coming months we will move out most of the wood chips and place in stones instead, then a few smaller plants near the tree (no clue what yet!) Good luck! - MrsT Brought first house in 2008.
