Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 24, 2016 2:57 pm Hi All, New to this forum and this is my 1st post. I've recently moved into a new home and need some help regarding the grass. I'm a bit lost as I've never had to garden before, so this is all a learning curve for me. We have a fairly large backyard, but the grass is in terrible shape (to the point you'd not want to walk barefoot on it). Weeds and dead spikey grass ALL over. I'm after a bit of advice as to what to do. Having looked at the grass, if I were to sit and pull all the weed and dead grass out, I would have nothing left (yes, it is that bad). What are my options here? Can I salvage the grass that we have by putting grass seed on it with feed of some sort, or am I best off ripping the lot out and then seeding? Not sure how to post a picture otherwise I would have. Any help is great as I've no clue where to even begin! Re: HELP! Lawn Questions 2Nov 27, 2016 6:49 pm To be honest, it's really hard to know where to help when we have no pictures or any detail. 1) close pics of the grass ( if any ) with the weeds your concerned about 2) where are you. Nsw, qld, wa, act, vic? You would be very surprised to find that most grass will bounce back if the competition weeds are exterminated. I also would suggest you speak with a garden supply centre that may be able to identify the weeds and provide some advice. Generally speaking though, it's much easier to fix rather than start again, and seed is not really effective in regenerating a yard that's overwhelmed by weed Re: HELP! Lawn Questions 4Dec 06, 2016 1:58 pm Thanks for the replies. We went to a garden centre and what we're trying 1st is to spray the grass to kill the weeds. It seems to kind of be working. The dandelion weeds are dying (the bigger ones not yet). But there are other weeds that don't seem to be effected just yet. Will wait and see. the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4858 Personally, considering your layout (study/work desks in bedrooms), I don't think you have any other option but to leave NW windows and make them as big as possible e.g.… 7 10470 We had this happen to us last year and got charged a variation.
